🔥 Removal of False idols 🔥

Something that can creep up on us and captivate our thoughts and lead us astray, idolatry.

God is a jealous God, and He wants a relationship with us; an intimate relationship that will give Him the attention that He deserves, He sent His only begotten Son to become the ultimate sacrifice so that you can enter into the holy of holies, behind the veil, washed cleaned by the blood of Jesus Christ, and tread in His presence every second of every day.
But setting things above Him will not allow you into His presence.
Idolatry is anything that gets or occupy your attention more than God… ANYTHING.

Colossians 3 is a regular “GO-TO” chapter for me, I love it. Colossians 3:5 explains briefly what idolatry is and give some examples;

‘ So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).’

This does not mean these are the only things that are seen as idolatry… but rather… “The deifying of self and other created things instead of God…” This is most likely over looked in our daily lives. DEFYING of self…  SELAH, pause and think about that for a second or 10, or 20… or how long it may ever take to have that sink in…

🔥 Your own desires that are being set above God’s will is idolatry;

🔥 Your refusal to wait on God’s timing, taking matters into your own hands, idolatry.

🔥 Refusing God’s instruction, choosing your own way is deifying of self, idolatry.

🔥Addiction is an own created habit, where you seek to sooth brokenness or lack from another source which is not God, idolatry, you are setting your “Go-to” place (drugs, alcohol, pornography, lust etc) over God’s love.

🔥 TV, Social Media, Sports, Work, Greed; if it takes more of your attention and time than time with God… I am not saying these are all bad for you, but watching TV for 6 hours a day, 7 days a week and choose not to go to church because you are too tired of watching TV until 3am might be a bit of a problem… and so, I can go on and on and on and on… I am sure you get the point.

  
Something I do quite often is to search my heart in my desires, to search my intentions… What are my desires? What is my waiting in these desires? Is the desire my desire, or is it God planted desires? Do I get anxious in the waiting? Or do I have peace in my waiting?
Searching your heart in your desired waiting will show you your intentions. The above-mentioned verse in Colossians 3:5 is following verses that set my mind at ease and brings a certain peace to me; Colossians 3:1-4;

‘ IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. And set your minds and keep them set on what is above, the higher things, not on the things that are on the earth. For as far as this world is concerned you have died, and your new, real life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in the splendor of His glory.’

Setting your mind, your affections, on things above… SETTING!!! ABOVE!!! And all of a sudden seeing the words “setting” and “above” in the context of this topic opens my eyes to something else…
uuuuuuuuuummmm, that revelation just popped up out of nowhere as I am typing this… let me SELAH for a second, or 10, or 20… That’s why I love writing… LOL

I am back…and all of a sudden there is a new blog topic coming soon in regard to this, definitely worth a study into it…

Anyhow; Putting it into context; this tells me the importance of our priorities, prioritizing our mind on things above where God is seated, kill the “animal impulses” lurking in us; setting God above all our “fleshly / human” desires will have us appear in the splendor of His glory. HALLELUJAH!!!

Setting God above all else will automatically remove and destroy idols, “gods” other than the life giving, life-saving, life protecting; live providing GOD.

Bring it to the Altar, let God alter your desires with His consuming fire, your wants and your needs; into His desires and His life inspiring thoughts for you… Rather call upon Him at the altar, than Him calling you to the altar for alteration… align yourself by setting HIM above everything else in your life, He is the source of life, honor Him for who He is!!!
